Today's Hadith

The Promised Enemy

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If people should break their covenant with Allah and His Messenger, you should realize that this has never happened without Allah sending an enemy against them to take some of their possessions by force.” [Ibn Majah]

In seventh century Hijri, a large part of the world was under Muslim government. Unfortunately, this landed was divided up between competing dynasties that fought each other, shedding Muslim blood. When the sanctity of Muslim life was violated and people were killed without just cause, a scourge from God in the form of the Mongols befell the Ummah.

Mongol tribes under Chingez Khan attacked the Muslims, slaughtering civilian populations and burning Bukhara, Samarqand, Balkh, Nishapur, Herat, Ray, Qazwayn and many a splendid city to the ground. Chingez Khan died in 624 Hijri but his sons continued their plunder. In 656 Hijri, Chingez’s grandson Hulaku Khan took over Baghdad, the capital of the Khilafah. Its population of 17 million Muslims was put to the sword, its libraries burned and Khaleefa Mutasim Billaah wrapped in a carpet and trampled to death by horses.
