UDP: We have a cause to celebrate

Ousainou Darboe, UDP Secretary General and Party leader the party said the
UDP have a cause to celebrate because they sacrificed a lot. “our members
did lost their lives, torture just to salvage the country.
He recalled that 23rd August, 1996 patriotic Gambians believed that their
country deserve a credible opposition to salvage the country.
He was speaking during the 18 year anniversary of the existence of United
Democratic Party, UDP on 27 September, 2014 along Kairaba Avenue.“As we
celebrate eighteen years anniversary with the present of NRP, GPDP and a
goodwill message from PDOIS indicates that there is a unity among the
opposition parties,” he said.“We pay tribute to our late militants as the
founding fathers of the party who were not here with us to celebrate these
successes”.According to him since the party was setup they have been in a
hard struggle to condemn impunity in the country.“The party is the first to
condemn the brutal killing of Koro Ceesay, former finance minister and
captain Ebou Jallow who stole Gambian money and taken to a Swiss Bank, “ he
said.
Lamin Dibba, UDP campaign manager said the party was formed in 23 August,
1996 on the basis of truth, democracy and transparency.
Alhagie Momodou Lamin Sanneh, former minority leader said the party since
it inception face so many intimidation, but they are still strong to
salvage Gambians. We are striving to establish truth, justice and
transparency in this country for the sake of humanity, he said.
Ahead of 2016 presidential elections we intend to engage the IEC and
stakeholders for Gambians in the Diaspora to be part of the voting process
to vote anywhere one might be in the world, he said. He revealed that “We
plan constitutional reform for two terms presidency of ten years like in
other countries”
He stressed that the economic hardship in The Gambia is not a secret to
anyone and is Gambians who can put a stop to that no one would come from
outside to put a stop to it.
“Let stop misleading people , development is a right not allegiance to a
ruling party every citizens are tax payer’s so they deserve development in
their various areas, former National Assembly member for Kiang West said.
He stressed that any grant government is taking they take it on behalf of
people, so threat the people of Kiang that if they did not vote for APRC
they will not get good roads and basic facilities that is a misleading
statement.
Hon. Kemesseng Jammeh, said the meeting is meant to informs the electorate
that the struggle that the party have gone through during the past eighteen
years.It also meant to engage the electorate ahead of the 2016 presidential
election for the birth of new Gambia.
He said the current trend the way the country is governed is not
sustainable. Our youths the bedrock of the country lost hope with the
current regime and they are risking their lives in the perilous journey to
Europe. Aja Yam Secka, women leader UDP said the party was setup 23rd
August, 1996 by then there were no human rights, democracy, freedom of
speech impunity was the order of the day.
It was a long journey with lot of harassment; intimidation for the party
militant do not rest their on laurels just to salvage this country.
By the God wish the UDP will win the 2016 presidential elections to put an
end to the suffering, impunity and bring back the country’s lost glory
UDP forever will salvage The Gambia from mental slavery come 2016.
Aja Sukai Na Kah, UDP women president said women are ready to effect change
of leadership as the economic hardship in The Gambia is terrible.
She urged women to continue striving hard and influence fellow women to
vote APRC regime out of power come 2016 presidential election.

Opposition in Gambia is a hell

Hamat NK Bah, leader of Opposition National Reconciliation Party, NRP said
eighteen years of being an opposition in The Gambia is a hell.
“It is a difficult task and lot of sacrifice as when the UDP is been formed
there were different interest group joining together with little knowledge
in political, but Ousainou Darboe transform them to a political party,” he
said during United Democratic Party (UDP) 18th year anniversary on 27
September, 2014.
“It is a hard struggle is not easy been an opposition leader in The Gambia,
he lamented.
According to him, Ousainou Darboe stood firm with the party with a few
honest people stand by him to move the party forward at the time when he
was taking over the leader of the UDP he was among the four leading lawyers
in the country.
NRP leader said he has lost all his contracts with government institutions,
properties and wealth his family were harassed, intimidated for been an
opposition leader all because of Gambian politics.
He said Ousainou has sacrifice a lot for this country and he deserve to be
praised and tomorrow, history will tell so that the future generations will
know that he has sacrifice a lot for this country.
“The road is long as life is a journey without obstacle you cannot make it
and I have no doubt we are ready for the courageous sacrifice to get what
we want,” he said.
He urged them to learn from their past mistakes and build new strategies
for the way forward.
He commended the UDP and it leadership for their struggle during the past
eighteen years.
