National Assembly gave their president and his party monocracy. The passed bill require a Presidential and National Assembly candidate placed a refundable deposit of D0.5m and D50K respectively to contest. Do the math how much it will cost a party that filed a candidate for president and 48 National Assembly seats. Essential besides APRC (that will use tax payer money to pay her deposits) no or most parties will not be able to meet this requirement. What then do they (we) do?
We have long argued that our unconditional participation in elections as is, is legitimatizing a bad process. Why many continued to believed that somehow we can win is beyond our comprehension. Nonetheless we are were we are.
What do we do? This coupled with the already Opposition Party Proposal & Demands form reforms is a good 1st step. However, it will not happen simply by turning in a piece of document.
Let us engage and motivate the parties to come up with the necessary infrastructure and processes. Let us help finance that process. That will build the needed political leverage. That's the way to go. No doubt we are loosing the battle badly. Its time we begin to turn the tide!
