Baba, I am sorry that I did not sign the poem. Also, for some reason my email address did not appear in the post.

Thank you Sir/Madam, for a very nice poem and the hope-inspiring words. Yes, it is high time that Gambians use the arts to protest, depict and preserve for posterity what is going on in our country. I hope to read more from you. Thanks a lot.

Warm regards,
Baba

Baba, I pen this poem a couple of hours ago to compliment your efforts in using your creative abilities to highlight the political problem and predicament the Gambia is facing. May be this should usher in the birth of a creative arts renaissance in which Gambians will use the creative arts, poetry, prose, music and the performing arts, like theatre and writing plays that will depict the realities of the Gambian situation.

The wind blows
and caress your face
the rivulets stream
and fertile the ground
the voice of hope
a salutation at your door
embrace it; open the door wide open.

The rivulets stream
and the ground is fertile
the wind echoes
the power behind your back
the voice of hope assures
that you take a stand
open the door
and be intimate with the visitation.

The ground is fertile
ready to conceive
at the womb of oppression and repression
the cruel pains of wickedness and evil

which scared your face
which silence your voice
which fear makes you hide
it is the labor of your conscience
the pangs of something new to be born.

The wind blows
and caress your face
the rivulets stream
and fertile the ground
the wind echoes
the power behind your back
the voice of hope assures
that you take a stand
your door is wide open
Now is the time
something new is to be born.

Subject: [G_L] Sad Clouds

Sad Clouds

O man of power

Do you not see the pain

In the eyes

Of all those grieving souls

Staring straight at you

Do you not hear the screams

Of all the trees and birds and lizards

The anguished pleas

Of the fleas and the bees

Buzzing around you

Do you not hear

The violent protests

Of the earth

Everywhere you go

Do you not hear the cries

Of abused power

From the silent hell

Of violent history

Do you not see the sadness

On the faces

Of the passing clouds

As they watch you fall

From the blows of

Your own power
