Dear All,

The Gambian Diaspora Survey was formally launched yesterday immediately after the conclusion of our fourth Webinar, which was held under the theme: "Facilitating Diaspora participation in Gambian Policy and Elections", and graced with the presence of the Attorney General and Minster of Justice, Honourable Abubacarr Tambadou, known for his humility and accessibility.

The AG and Minister of Justice was one of the panelists that included Dr Siga Fatima Jagne, Gambia National Think-Tank; Isatou Kassama, Researcher, Gambian National Assembly; Sarjo Camara, Department of Community Development; and activists Yusef Taylor, James Bahoum and Pa Samba Jow (Coach). And thanks to Demba Baldeh's generousity, Gainako radio kindly offered to broadcast the entire programme live. Sorry for deviating from the topic of the survey.

The survey is also available on the MSDG website (www.gambiandiaspora.net<http://www.gambiandiaspora.net>) and will be uploaded onto the MSGD Facebook page shortly. The new government in the Gambia is presently trying to find ways to better harness the potential of Gambian Diaspora and engage them in meaningful national development. The move is part of President Barrow’s policy initiatives undertaken in order to develop a National Diaspora Engagement Strategy to extend protection to Gambians in the Diaspora, as well as integrate them into the country’s national development agenda. This global online survey is part of the Migration and Sustainable Development in The Gambia (MSDG) project which is a technical cooperation programme, designed and implemented by GK Partners (GKP), in partnership with the Government of The Gambia, and funded by the Swiss Government.

The lead consultant and Project Director is Gambian-born London School of Economics (LSE) Professor, Gibril Faal, who also co-founded the London-based GK Partners.

Gambians in the diaspora are being engaged, on behalf of the government, to solicit their inputs as part of the process of developing a National Diaspora Policy. The global online survey would be available for at least three weeks from 25th November 2017 and therefore, all Gambians living abroad are encouraged to complete the questionnaire and share the link with their contacts and networks.

Kind regards,
Ebrima
