Sherri,
I will ask the celiac advisor to our support group what she knows re; soy and
stabilizing blood sugar.

I have 2 children with dual diagnosis/diabetes/cd.  All 3 of my children have
been diagnosed with CD since ages 7,7, and 9.  One developed diabetes at age
8 and the other at age 21, now these 2 are 18 and 22.  My youngest is now 15,
has been diagnosed with CD since age 9, and hypothyroid for last 6 months.
My husband was diagnosed with thyroid a few years ago and CD 16 years ago.

2 of them had severe lactose intolerance upon celiac diagnosis, and prior to
celiac dx.  Within 6 months they could gradually introduce dairy and now
tolerate dairy very well.  That may get better.

Both Amy and David are pump users.  Casting any potential for improved A1C's
aside, the lifestyle choices and ability to eat what and when they want is
worth the work and effort.  David started it when he was 11, and Amy within 1
month of diabetes diagnosis.  I am CDE and have worked with families of
children 8 years old and over.  In our area the age is getting younger and
younger.  If my 2 were 5, I would consider it.  Crucial however to get great
support from good endo with faith in it, and CDE who is good with children
and interested in working with young children.   Significant saline trial
would be very important also.  It can help eliminated the severe high/lows,
put person on much more even keel, keep from having to feed and chase lows,
prevent from feeding long acting insulin.  Good luck and you are not alone.
