I found this excellent page below on the thyroid and the biochemical
problems that lead to hypothyroidism. Near the end the author
discusses many important things related to health and thyroid
function. It goes into a bit more detail on how soy disrupts thyroid
function. I was suprised to find that Apha lipoic acid a commonly
touted healthy anti-oxidant and a precursor in Omega-3 production
can lower T4 levels significantly by it's action in the liver. Low
carbohydrate diets also lower thyroid hormone levels. It discusses
the importance of selinium in the manufacture of T3 and how stress
alters thyroid function. It also covers iodine and vitimins.

I found the above article by accident after doing a search into T2
another thyroid hormone. There are about 9 thyroid hormones that are
known or studied any.
These other thyroid hormones are important in metabolism,
osteoporosis, and general health, also. I am concerned about
synthetic thyroid therapy and it's lack of these other important
hormones. Recently body builders have discovered that T2 improves
metabolic rate and a company has come up with a product containing
it. Some speculate that this lack of T2 in sythetic thyroid
treatment is why so many hypothyroid patients on synthroid have
a weight problem. An article that goes into this is below. The author
makes a good case for why hypothyroid sufferers may not be healthy on
syhthroid. T2 is also found in red meats, so a diet that eliminates red
meats may not be best for some people.

I am curious to know if thyroid glandulars contain any of these
other thyroid hormones that the body produces or are they destroyed
in the manufacturer's process of removing the T4 and T3? I contacted
one and they did not provide any information for me. It is hard to
believe they don't know what is in their stuff. Can anyone please
enlighten me about this topic or point me toward information on it?

I will be so grateful.
Tish
