Train the Trainer
This online course starts October 4 2004. See a syllabus and register:
http://easi.cc/workshops/train.htm
Sad to say, many students with disabilities graduate from high school and
come to college without becoming proficient at the computer. Frequently in
high school, they have personal assistants and do not learn to be really
independent. So, it now becomes the college and university that has to
provide this training. This course will provide an overview of many
assistive technologies and provide you with simple "cheat sheets" you can
grab when a student walks through your door.
The course is instructor-led, month-long and interactive. Content is on
the Web, and class discussion uses a listserv system. The course is divided
into the following 8 topics:

LESSON 1: TRAINING USERS WITH DISABILITIES ON COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
LESSON 2 OVERVIEW OF PERSONAL COMPUTER HARDWARE PLATFORMS
LESSON 3 THE WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM AND ACCESSIBILITY
LESSON 4 TECHNOLOGY FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED CONSUMERS
LESSON 5 TECHNOLOGY FOR PERSONS WITH HEARING RELATED DISABILITIES
Lesson 6 ALTERNATIVE INPUT SYSTEMS
Lesson 7 TECHNOLOGY FOR PERSONS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES
Lesson 8 EVALUATIONS AND REPORT WRITING

The course textbook is by the course teacher, Joseph Lazzaro:
"Adaptive Technologies for Learning and Work Environments" available from
Amazon and also on audio tape from the Library of Congress National Library
System.
