Gee, thanks for asking.

At the 1933 Century of Progress world's fair in Chicago,
in the General Exhibits Building, there was
an Underwood Typewriter showroom, where Albert Tangora
would demonstrate his keyboarding prowess.
Elsewhere in the same building, there was
a Baldwin Piano showroom, where a high-school teacher
named Virginia Martin would demonstrate her keyboarding prowess.
Someone must have thought they should meet.

She gave up her dreams of studying piano in France
(with Isidore Philipp) & got married.

She never encouraged me or my younger brother
to have a musical career, but I got deeply interested
in playing classical piano when in college,
and spent a year in Paris studying with
a first-class piano teacher. In the end
I got a PhD in mathematics and confined my piano
to amateur competitions.

For a really bewildering glimpse of my math career,
do a Google image search on "M. C. Tangora" --
the initials format is the standard one for
mathematical bibliographical references.

My wife and I also "met cute."
