Hi roy, for some reason, you need to add the third 0, to enter the offset
frequency. This is also true with the UV5R, 144/220 version. Yes, you
can use the rig in VFO or frequency mode as they call it. To enter the
frequency in to memory, press menu 27, menu and you will hear, Memory
Channel. Ender the memory channel you want to use, with all 3 didgits, as
in 001, for channel 1. You will hear Recieving Memory. Now, press the
far right key on the top row, wich will take you out of the menu's, or
wait 10 seconds or so, then, press the reverse key, wich is the second
key down, on the right side, just below the clear key you just pressed,
and then press menu twice, you will again hear Memory Channel. Entr the
same 3 didgits, and press menu again, and you will hear Transmitting
Memory. Hope I haven't confused you even more! GRIN!
