Hi Bob --
Fascinating topic. I won't be able to join an on-going, off-list discussion
group, since work is "interfering" with my e-mail time. I've sent this to the
two lists, to help the discussion before I return to the murky Blue Magic of
my job at Blockbuster Video!
I agree that the early promise of the Gestalt outlook was for a full-blown
focus on both health and neurosis (and still is), but that the current client
base is still essentially indistinguishable from any other illness-focused
psychology.
The list of traits so far leaves out some important features, and presents
others quite passively. "Comfort with ambiguity," for example, could be
"passion for paradox."
Indeed, "passion" is absent, though the trait of "suffering intensely
unavoidable suffering" was close.
Courage
Honor
Faith, Reverence, Humility, Charity, Loyalty (and other such powerful
landmarks for more conservative folks)
Humor
Fierceness
Obedience
Disobedience
Appreciation for and involvement in the arts
Vivid cultural identity (including dual, multiple, or adopted)
Helping others
Protecting the weak
Opposing evil
Forgiving evil
A love of justice
Self-sacrifice
Confession
Best regards,
Bruce
