Carolyn Weston from New Zealand was asking about travel experiences,
and considered two or three "major issues" (see extract of her
message appended below).
In the EU-funded MoBIC project they didn't consider
travel documents, but they did consider:
* planning journey
* micro-navigation
* macro-navigation
Planning involves maps, time-tables and tourist information.
Micro-navigation involves avoiding obstacles in your path, and
typically solved by dog or cane.
Macro-navigation is following a route from A to B, and could
be aided by GPS and/or special signage (e.g. talking signs working
on infra-red transmission). MoBIC took special interest in the
this aspect of travel.
My company Cloudworld is developing access technology for all kinds of
information - including maps. In the longer term we'd like to
couple this with GPS and signage for macro-navigation.
Cheers from Chiswick,
John

I have entered a scholarship in the travel industry. The emphasis is on
travellers with disabilities from overseas visiting New Zealand. My
research document focuses on blind and vision impaired travellers and must
identify issues such travellers have and draw up strategies to address
these issues.
I believe that the two major issues are:
* Information about a destination that is, New Zealand in accessible
formats
* information about travelling documents in accessible formats
* Mobility when one has arrived in the destination, especially when
travelling alone.
