A German TTS processor for MBROLA is
now available in RPM format at the Blinux FTP site.

At leb.net/pub/blinux go to
mbrola/blinux/RPMS or mbrola/blinux/SRPMS

There you will find the binary and source RPM packages as
mbrola-tts-German-0.60-1.i386.rpm and
mbrola-tts-German-0.60-1.src.rpm

If your Linux distribution can't handle RPM packages,
go to the mbrola/blinux/tar.gz sub directory.
mbrola-tts-German-0.60.tar.gz is a gzipped tar archive.
Download it it into your / directory and do a
tar -xzf mbrola-tts-German-0.60.tar.gz
to install.

All described packages contain a script (txt2pho.go),
which pipes German ASCII input to MBROLA and speaks the
output through your sound card.
It is quite fast and seems to be usable in connection
with SCREADER screen reader.

It also should speak even longer German ASCII text files
pretty well. If you want to know more about txt2pho,
check out http://www.ikp.uni-bonn.de/~tpo/Hadifix.en.html

Enjoy!
Hans
