Santa Claus has delivered in time and now your Linux box
will speak English ASCII input fast and in high MBROLA quality
(see no.2 of the announcement).

People claim that speech now sounds better than speech delivered
by many hardware solutions. And it's fast even running on an
antique Intel 486 CPU!

Now you can use SCREADER screen reader and the newest tts-English
package to get an nice fast English speaking screen reader.

Allow 24h hours until files and adapted scripts to speak ASCII
imput are available at the Blinux FTP site at ftp://leb.net/pub/blinux.

Lend Linux your ear and enjoy!

Hans

.... MAC Attacks, and a TTS blossom ....

Dear Mbrola users,
We have lots of very good news, as usual !

1) THE LONG AWAITED MBROLA BINARY FOR MAC IS HERE THANKS TO GERALD
KERMA!!!!
                  Go on http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis/mbrcopybin.html

2) A full TTS in English provided by Stephen Isard and Alistair Conkie
from CSTR Edimburgh is distributed as C source code on:

http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis/mbrtts.html.

Let us hope it will give the idea to people designing TTS for other
languages that it is a good thing to disseminate their NLP :-))

3) Full TTS in German provided by Thomas Portele et Al :-)

http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis/mbrtts.html
Distributed in binary form for Solaris,Windows and Linux.

3) New features of Mbrola 2.05d :

                  * parameter -i on the command line and "About" button in the
Windows mbroli application: the diphone database are autodocumented
(they indicate the phoneme set they use, the name of the provider and
so on).

                  * flag -e and ";; E=ON|OFF" directive: many of you requested a
sort of "debug mode" where missing diphones wouldn't generate fatal
errors. Writing ";;E=OFF" in a pho file cancels strict checking,
missing phoneme are then replaced with silence.

4) If we're on schedule, you may be able to say "God Jul" for Xmas :-)

As always visit http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis (new look !), you
will find there the ultimate Mbrola tool: MBROLIGN. It is a prosody
transplantation tool to extract prosody from natural sentences and
send it in Mbrola.

                 The mbrola team
