If you want to visit Alfonso's Restaurant/Pizzeria in East Brunswick (A&P
Shopping Center on Route 18), call first to see if "Claudette," the chef is
there. We spoke to her about our daughter's GF dietary needs and she
prepared a grilled chicken breast with homemade French fries (she told us
that their regular French fries do have a wheat-based coating). She also
prepared a gluten-free Caesar salad dressing. We gave her one of the
restaurant cards from TCCSSG, which she is keeping in the kitchen for
future reference.(We told her that there are a number of celiacs in the
area interested in eating out GF). She had told us that while she has been
informed of wheat allergies/sensitivities, she had never been told of
celiac disease, per se. So, a little extra effort proves to be a win-win
for all. If anyone knows of progress being made with other restaurants in
the Middlesex County area, please post. (The South Jersey group has devised
a GF menu in at least one restaurant, from what I've read).
