Re: [CHOMSKY] Another ViewI just joined the group recently but thought I'd mention a book that I just recently read re Israel/Palestine:

Norman Finkelstein, "Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict", Verso, 1995

First of all, this is not "another view". This is the official view of the US government and the elite classes of the US.

I do agree with llevitt that the theory that the WTC bombing was done by Bush seems about as plausible as the theory that it was done by Mosad with the approval of US Jews. There is no doubt, however, that fascists all over the world are using this as pretext for attacking their enemies and for reducing civil liberties for non-elites.

While I agree with most of Bill Bartlett's critique of llevitt, I disagree with his equation of Zionism with Nazism. I am not a Zionist and I do not support the fanatical assertions of Zionists that God gave that land to them, but Zionists, to my knowledge, have never suggested that Jews should rule the world, nor have they argued that some racial or religious groups should be the targets of a ěfinal solution.î

It isn't unheard of, though I expect it is probably a minority viewpoint:

"There is no other way than to transfer the Arabs from here to
neighbouring countries ... all of them; not one village, not one
tribe, should be left." - Joseph Weitz, 1967.

"The only good Arab is a dead Arab When we have settled the land,
all the Arabs will be able to do about it will be to scurry around
like drugged cockroaches." - Rafael Eitan, Likud, 1981.

(I can't actually vouch for these quotes though, I just snatched them
from a post that appeared in my in-box the same day as yours. I'm not
all that knowledgable on the subject I'm afraid. Hopefully someone
        will point out any errors.)

However I agree that Zionism isn't the same as Nazism. As you say, Zionists Don't appear to have any ambitions to rule the world for starters. My point really is to highlight that there are some tragic similarities. But the really important point to understand is that the parallels are no co-incidence, that persecution of people tends to result in the victims themselves becoming perpetrators.

It is a predictable social phenomenon, people who are treated inhumanly will carry out inhuman acts themselves. It isn't just the Jews of Europe that this applies to, but equally to their victims and the victims of their victims.

In fact I recall it was a Jew who long ago warned us to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. ;-)

I recommend that Bartlett, llevitt and all others who havenít done so already read at least one of Chomskyís many commentaries on Israel/Palestine.

I probably have. But you're right that I'm a little ignorant (now that you mention it.) I'm not all that motivated to hunt down suitable articles, but if you have anything handy that you reckon I should read, then send it to me and I'll read it.
