The Women's Therapy Centre, London, England
Set up in 1976 by Susie Orbach and Luise Eichenbaum, the Women's Therapy
Centre is now celebrating 21 years of working with women. Over the years
the Centre has contributed to the understanding of women's psychology,
resulting in issues such as eating problems becoming an important part of
mainstream thinking. Fifty per cent of the women receiving therapy at the
Centre come from ethnic minority backgrounds and the Centre's Community
Workshops Project organises groups in local areas for isolated and
vulnerable women, who would not normally consider therapy an option. A
therapeutic experience is offered in over twenty-two different languages,
so that refugee and migrant women can take part. The Women's Therapy
Centre's work offers a practical approach to helping women in emotional
distress, from a psychoanalytic and feminist perspective.
Membership includes regular updates on workshops, training and special
events., ten per cent off specialist publications, and a twice yearly
newsletter. Contact: Gill Coleman, Women's Therapy Centre, 6 - 9 Manor
Gardens, London, N7 6LA, UK Tel: (+44) (0)171 263 2236.
