conference on Postmodernism

Keynote address: Terry Eagleton (Oxford/Dublin) on „Culturalism or
Materialism?“ (announced)

The Departments of Sociology, Political Science and American Literature
invite young scholars (from graduate students
to assistant professors) to participate in the 4th interdisciplinary,
international (post)graduate conference at Erlangen
University (Germany).

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

     postmodern criticism - criticizing the Postmodern
     postmodern politics - political postmodernism
     Marxism and the Postmodern
     language and power
     truth as difference
     alterity as intercultural practice
     strategies of identity in the simulacrum
     feminism and queer theory
     re-presentation and the politics of the body
     psychoanalysis and phallocratism
     jouissance as surplus value
     difference as a symptom
     transnational media rhizomes
     „I“ is a commodity
     the sublime and the affordable
     p-commerce: utilizing the postmodern
     the true, the beautiful and the goods - the end of philosophy and
ethics?
     postanalytical philosophy vs deconstruction
     music cultures in late capitalism: song_track_loop
     science fiction and postmodern utopia
     historiography, narration and biography
     hyperfiction and net literature
     the fantastic in literature, film and the fine arts
     echoes and reflections in art and literature

Deadline for paper proposals: 15th September, 2001, but could be
prolongued (other participants may register till
November 20th without any problems). Please register on our online
submission form (http://www.gradnet.de)

Each panel will consist of three to five speakers and will last two to
two and a half hours. Speaking time for each paper is
approximately 12 minutes, which permits ample time for discussion after
the delivery of the papers. Contributions of 3 to
10 pages from the delegates will be posted on our web page in order to
facilitate discussion and scholarly exchange. The
deadline for the submission of these short contributions is 15th

Die Institute für Soziologie, Politische Wissenschaft und Amerikanistik
der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität
Erlangen-Nürnberg laden junge WissenschaftlerInnen (Studierende bis
Habilitierende) zu einer interdisziplinären,
internationalen Konferenz ein.

Anmeldefrist für Vortragende: 15. September 2001, es kann aber
Verlängerung gewährt werden (alle anderen
Teilnehmer können sich problemlos bis kurz vor Beginn der Konferenz
anmelden). Anmeldung bitte über das
online-Formular (http://www.gradnet.de).

Die Vortragsmanuskripte sollen im Vorfeld der Konferenz auf der Webpage
einsehbar sein, um Diskussion und
Austausch zu erleichtern. Pro Sitzung (ca. 2 bis 2,5 Stunden) werden
drei bis fünf ReferentInnen sprechen. Durch die
Beschränkung der Vortragsdauer auf ca. 12 Minuten soll es viel
Gelegenheit zur Diskussion geben. Frist für die
Einsendung von drei- bis zehnseitigen Diskussionsmanuskripten (nur für
die Webpage, nicht für den Tagungsband): 15.
