You probably hit on the reason why people seem to be more likely to be
treated by doctors who aren't endocrinologists. (Not to say there aren't some good
ones.)

Doctors make money pushing drugs. If you have the flu, can they do anything
for you? Probably not. But, if you go and see and don't get help, you're a
lot less likely to come back. So, they give you Thera Flu or recommend flu
shots. Both have potential problems.

He is probably right, the TSH test is quite sensitive at measuring how much
TSH your pituitary gland is putting out. However, once you have that number,
some interpretation is needed. And it may not be as simple as if it's in the
normal range it's OK. If it's low, is it because the pituitary is too tired
because it's not getting enough thyroid hormone, so it's lost its ability to
produce? (Has a doc even thought of that possibility?) Is the pituitary
damaged? Is the hypothalamus sending enough TRH, which triggers TSH production?
Are the adrenals working properly so that T4 is being converted into T3? Are
you getting enough selenium to convert T4 to T3? Are you getting adequate
Vitamin C? All these have an effect on what the TSH might mean. Not to mention T4
and T3 levels, and sometimes rT3 are relevant.

The cold hands indicate you're not on enough thyroid. A couple years ago, I
went ice fishing, and I could actually move my hands on the ice, they weren't
frozen solid like they always were before.

My daughter had the coldest hands you ever felt until she went on Armour.
They warmed right up. Of course, at a young age, before damage is done, the
effect might be easier and quicker.
