Dear Thyroid Folks,

There are around 500 of us now on Thyroid, from about 27
different countries (and many language communities).

It is my job as list owner, of course, to keep the
discussion going in the directions defined in the Thyroid
Welcome message. To wit:

This is a large GROUP discussion.

Please do not "exclude" the *rest* of us by directing your
message(s) to a single or a couple of us on the
Subject: line (or in the salutation, for that matter).

The traditional Internet e-mail method for obtaining the
attention of an single other discussion group member is to
use the same (or very similar) Subject: line that they did
(so they can follow your comments on their comments by
the Subject: line "thread"). This method works fine in most
cases.

Another, additional method that is always available, to
make >sure< that one person notices your "reply," is to
send an additional, direct copy of the message in question
to the person's private e-mail address. Most e-mail
programs now make that 'incoming' e-mail address available,
even though several e-mail programs try to make you work
hard to find it. If you need help finding the e-mail address for
the person who wrote a particular message, please ask me
off-list <[log in to unmask]>.

No Names On Subject: lines Please

Thank you all for including ALL of us in the discussion. We
are not here to talk about each other - we're here to talk
about thyroid problems - so please don't place names of
members of the discussion group on the Subject: line. The
topic of your message, what the content of your message
is about, should appear on the Subject: line, please.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program . . .

 Pax,
Ballew Kinnaman <[log in to unmask]> 206/463-2322
