If you get a chance to see a biochemistry diagram of what happens to T4
as it becomes T3 or Reverse T3, T2, T1, etc., you would be able to see that
the numbers by the T (or t) represent the number of iodine atoms attached
to the two six-sided rings in the T (thyroid hormone) molecule.
