Not typical because you're male? A female with thyroid problems presents
with different problems than a male. Problems that make it more likely the
doctor will do a thyroid test. Many doctors do the thyroid test, but don't bother
testing antibodies.

So, if the atypical comment has to do with being male, things rarely looked
for are rarely found.

It's not unusual to think one who is hypothyroid is lazy, and even believe it
about yourself. It's no fun when young to have to think about energy
expenditure before you choose to do anything.

Limping from the bed to the bathroom was a problem with plantar fascitis, but
the pain stopped at my feet. The worst time for pain was when getting out of
bed. Back then, getting out of bed was much more common due to low adrenal
function, something common in hypothyroidism. Sometimes treating one cures the
other. In my case, the adrenals had to be treated separately. Frequent
urination was annoying during the day, but much worse at night when my feet would
hurt terribly if I had to get up. The frequent urination is a problem that
stopped on cortef.

Paying $350 an hour to see a "botique specialist" for thyroid sounds like a
lot. In the short run it is. But, when you consider the time and money that
going to see a doctor for what were just symptoms of hypothyroidism along with
the lost productivity, and the years lost sleeping them away, it can be a
bargain.

Good doctors are hard to find. Not because they are not empathatic and try
to be helpful, but because they have been trained poorly. It's in the best
interest of seeing the huge medical industry doesnt' go into recession.
