The 24 hour test is generally not considered diagnostic for low adrenals.
The AM cortisol is considered more so, the best test they say is the cortysyn
stimulation test if I have it right. (The test where they take the AM cortisol,
inject you with something to challenge your adrenals and see an hour or two
later how much your adrenals have risen.) The latter is said by some to be
hard on a person with low adrenals, and not as informative as a trial of
hydrocortisone.
Most of the Vitamin C in the body is used by the adrenals. Second most by
the liver. Vitamin C fights infections, somehow by becoming part of the white
blood cells. The molecules are similar to sugar and so sugar will compete with
Vitamin C, which is why sugar is bad for the immune system.
Magnesium is also important for the adrenals.
You might consider those and some other supplements along with the adrenal
extract. Licorice helps some, but read up on licorice toxicity before taking
it.
In some, adequate thyroid treatment will fix the adrenal problem. In others,
adrenal treatment will cure the thyroid problem because it caused it. T4 to
T3 conversion requires appropriate levels of cortisol. Too little causes
excess excretion instead of conversion, and too much causes excess amounts to be
converted to inactive rT3.
