| IT HAS COME TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL WELFARE RUMOURS BEING PEDDLED AROUND , ESPECIALLY IN THE SOCIAL MEDIA, INSINUATING THAT THE WHO PROPOSED TO PROCURE DRUGS FOR THE MINISTRY WHICH THE LATTER REFUSED FOR FEAR OF LOSING KICKBACKS IN THE PROCESS.
THE MINISTRY WOULD LIKE TO UNEQUIVOCALLY REFUTE SUCH BASELESS CLAIMS AIMED SOLELY AND REGRETTABLY TO TANISH THE EXCELLENT CHARACTER OF THE STAFF THAT ARE WORKING TIRELESSLY TO SEE THAT THE HEALTH SECTOR REGAINS ITS GLORY AMID HUGE AND DIFFICULT CHALLENGES.
IT SHOULD BE CLEAR THAT THE WHO DOES NOT PROCURE DRUGS FOR THE MINISTRY AND HAS NEVER OFFERED TO DO SO. THE ORGANIZATION HAS RELENTLESSLY SERVED AND CONTINUES TO SERVE THE MINISTRY IN PROVIDING BOTH TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL EXPERTISE AND INTERVENTIONS TO ENSURE THE GOVERNMENT MEETS ITS HEALTH VISION AND MISSION.
THE MINISTRY TAKES THE OPPORTUNITY TP COMMEND ALL PARTNERS INTERVENING IN SPECIFIC AREAS AND PROVIDING SUPPORT IN THE PURCHASE OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES IN THOSE AREAS: THE GLOBAL FUND (MALARIA, TB AND HIV/AIDS), UNFPA (REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH), GAVI (VACCINES AND IMMUNIZATION), UNICEF AND THE WORLD BANK (MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH), WFP, EU AND FAO (FOOD FORTIFICATION AND NUTRITION); ETC.. EACH PARTNERS' SUPPORT CANNOT BE MEASURED AS THEIR INTERVENTIONS ARE ACTUALLY WHAT HAS PLACED THE GAMBIA IN AN ENVIABLE PLACE OF PRIDE ESPECIALLY IN ITS FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA, CONTAINING TB INFECTIONS, AND ITS IMMUNIZATION COVERAGE. WE ALSO THANK THE WORLD BANK FOR PROVIDING FUNDS THROUGH UNICEF TO HELP COMPLEMENT THE PURCHASE OF DRUGS AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES FOR THE COUNTRY FOR THE YEAR 2018.
THE MINISTRY HAS THE QUALIFIED AND COMPETENT STAFF, WHO ARE FULL OF INTEGRITY, TO DEAL WITH THE PROCUREMENT OF DRUGS AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES FROM LOCAL FUNDS.
