Secundo le libro "Woher" le parola in germano, "lesen" = "leger"
es un cognato del latin "legere". In e le germano e le latino
le significantia de lesen/legere esseva initialmente a colliger cosas.
Le latino ha disveloppate le metaphora que a leger un inscription
o manuscripto es a "leger" o "colliger" le parolas del manusripto.
Isto deveniva le parola "leger" pro "Io lege un libro". Le latino
evidentemente ha prestate iste mesme metaphora al germano que alora
usava "lesen" (o su ancestre) in le secunde senso de leger parolas
de un pagina o manuscripto.  E le latino, le germano, e interlingua
retene le duo sensos de "leger" lesen/legere.


 lesen ah. _lesan_, got. _lisan_, ags. _lesan_ sammeln, aufheben,
    lesen ("Ahren, Trauben), dann Auflesen der zur Weissagung
    ausgestreuten St"abchen (aus Bucheholz) durch die Priester,
    endlich "ubertr.  Lesen de Buchstaben mit d. Augee (Entw. wie
    bei lt. _legere_ lesen); lit. _lesu_ picke auf;  Lese f, belesen,
    erlesen.  Dagegen ags. _roedan_, eng. _read_ lesen =
    die Runenzeichen erraten; s. Buch, Buchstabe, Federlesen.
