Hello Omar,

Thanks for the reply. I read the Buharry's mail in between meetings.

> According to the article Buharry forwarded, the girl will be "publicly flogged 40 days after she puts to bed (gives birth)".

40 dayas after, she would still not have recovered from giving birth! I guess people that gave out the sentence don't know what it is like to give birth.

>The partner should be meted out the same punishment plus one year imprisonment.

Is this what the sharia says or is it the Nigerian court that said it? And what help would that be. The child would be growing up one whole year without the father....

> I`ll like to say that I`m far from being versed with the shariah(you know , Isatou). I`m just recalling what our Imam here once said, and the punishment according to him was supposed to be 100 lashes. There is a different interpretation here, but it seems to me that the Nigerian one is gone overboard.

Omar, that's one thing that confuses me sometimes. There are so many interpretation or misinterpretation of the religion that one doesn't know what to believe. And there are also those people taking the religion and interpreting it to suit them. My next question is what does the sharia say about people who go overboard? If the sharia says 100 lashes, are people allowed to give out more?

Isatou
