Didn't you know that Islam says that charity should sincere and done 
for the sake of Allah? If you gave your charity in sincerity and ONLY 
for the sake of Allah, you wouldn't be having regrets when imperfect 
humans are not interested in "how you are the generous philantrophist 
helping out Muslims in trouble and giving alms to Muslims who cheat 
you.".
