ML,
In the coming weeks we will have the opportunity to open a dialogue with
our fellow Gambian brothers and sisters regarding PDOIS. We hope as we
undertake to be owners of this party, that our Gambian brothers and sisters will
also join us in owning the party. We will try to clarify the issues as we
understand them, and seek to forge a consensus that deliberates on how PDOIS's
political, social and economic agenda transcends our partisan divide. There is
a lot of literature in PDOIS's political work that supports this contention.

There are a lot of people who have been silent for a long time; people
who understand the mission and vision that has been articulated so eloquently
by the party, and have for so many years followed the developments of the
party, not wavering in their commitment to support the cause that best
demonstrates their national aspirations. To have a country that every citizen would be
proud to call home.

I also hope that there will be an honest appreciation of the facts as we
examine the issues. Many a time, people are carried away by the socialism in
the PDOIS acronym, to make claims that the party does not make, and ascribe
to them positions that they do not hold. Some of them stubbornly refuse to
see beyond the labels of 'Socialism or Communism' and therefore say whatever
comes to their head. It has just been ridiculous. No wonder those who
understand what PDOIS has been saying all long just maintain their silence.

As we will try to open this new chapter of dialogue, let us hope that it
will be characterized by substance, knowledge of the issues and a desire to
forge a common effort to confront our real political problems.

     Rene
