Examination is opened to nationals from the

Functions :
Work performed within this occupation
relates to the coordination of the international
humanitarian response to armed conflicts and
natural disasters. The tasks of the occupation
vary considerably depending upon the
assignment and may include, but are not
limited to:
1.desk/liaison - supporting field needs,
including substantive and policy
advice, staffing and resource
mobilization, as well as providing input
for briefings on humanitarian
emergencies to the Security Council
and Member States;
2.policy development - conducting
research, analyzing and drafting
papers relating to humanitarian action
and coordination of the same, and
assisting in the organization of
inter-agency consultations for the
preparation of inter-agency and
lessons learned studies;
3.information - developing early warning
and contingency planning,
disseminating documents and
providing technical support;
4.advocacy - developing press kits,
drafting press statements and minutes
for monthly NGO meetings;
5.deployment to the field - undertaking
field missions to directly support relief
efforts.
Minimum requirements :
First level university degree in law,
social or political sciences
A maximum of 32 years old on 31
December 2000
A minimum of two years working
experience in humanitarian affairs or
international relations
Strong interpersonal and
communication skills for working with
a wide range of humanitarian actors
within and outside the UN system
Ability to identify creative and
pragmatic solutions to problems
relating to armed conflict and natural
disasters
Ability to organize and coordinate
work often under stressful conditions
Ability to adapt to volatile and
unpredictable environment
Fluency in English or French with
strong drafting skills
Other desirable requirements :
Advanced university degree in law,
social or political sciences
Experience at the field level with a
national, international or
non-governmental organization
Working knowledge of another United
Nations official language (Chinese,
Arabic, Russian, Spanish)
Salary and Benefits :
The United Nations offers attractive
compensation and benefits package. For a
staff member without dependents the annual
starting salary will normally be between
US$30,983 and US$40,105 net of income
tax. In addition, staff members are entitled to
a post adjustment which varies according to
the cost of living of each duty station (for
example, it is currently between US$13,323
and US$17,245 per year in New York). For
a staff member with dependents, the annual
starting salary will be between US$32,912
and US$42,925. (In New York, the post
adjustment for staff members with
dependents is currently between US$14,152
and US$18,458). The determination of
salary of successful candidates will be based
on his/her level of academic qualifications
and the length of his/her relevant professional
experience.

Post graduate degree in international studies, public health, health

primary health care and/or reproductive health. Experience in
international ophthalmology preferred. Demonstrable experience in
program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation,
proposal writing, grant management, donor compliance, financial and
human resource management etc. A minimum of 3 years international
experience is required; preferably filed based. Demonstrated leadership
skills and ability to manage multi-national staff. Fluency in spoken and

Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist
(New York)
The Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will be responsible for
developing, refining, and maintaining a monitoring system for ORBIS.
She/he will also coordinate the periodic evaluation of ORBIS blindness
prevention efforts. She/he will also provide support to ORBIS' country
programs to address their monitoring and evaluation needs. The person
will also be responsible for participating in the development of
projects in close collaboration with ORBIS country representatives.
This includes identifying opportunities for funding, initiating the
concept, designing, monitoring the implementation, providing or
coordinating the provision of the technical assistance, evaluating the
progress and measuring the impact.
Knowledge and skills: Masters Degree in Epidemiology, or Public Health
or related field with equivalent work background is required.*
Undergraduate degree in health related profession. Minimum 3-5 years
experience in designing monitoring and evaluation programs. Demonstrated
expertise in monitoring program development and outcomes evaluation.
International program management planning and technical guidance
experience in developing countries are highly preferred. Demonstrated
expertise in the design and development of monitoring and evaluation
systems in multi-cultured settings are highly desirable. Excellent
verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Strong knowledge
of French or Spanish. Excellent organizational, managerial and
administrative skills required. Demonstrated experience working in and
leading a team. Experience interacting with other NGO's, PVO's,
government health officials, medical establishments, and university
