 Haruna,

Public Citizen just won another major victory for consumers.

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that consumers harmed by violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act — the 1991 federal law that curbs abusive telemarketing practices — may bring lawsuits in federal courts as well as state courts.

The ruling helps ensure that consumers and their advocates can hold unscrupulous telemarketers accountable.

Public Citizen attorney Scott Nelson argued the case, Mims v. Arrow Financial Services. This was the 60th Supreme Court case Public Citizen has argued. And we’ve been involved in hundreds more Supreme Court cases over the years.

No public interest group our size can match Public Citizen’s record of success defending consumer rights in key cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

                        Why are we so successful?

Because we have such an extraordinary team of lawyers, doctors, researchers, policy experts, organizers and more, all of whom come to work every day devoted to advancing justice. I’m proud to work with such amazingly talented and committed colleagues.

And because we’re backed by thousands upon thousands of supporters — from all walks of life and from every corner of America — who stand with us to stand up to corporate greed.

Congratulations on this important win. And thank you for standing with Public Citizen.

Onward!

                                    Robert Weissman
                                    President, Public Citizen

P.S. Read our press release and the court’s decision (PDF) to learn more.

P.P.S. Make a contribution today so that we can keep fighting for consumers tomorrow.
