As a special present on the occasion of his 46th Birthday, the president of
the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh has
directed that the tractors recently presented to the governors for use in
their various regions be handed over to the women groups in their respective
regions, a media dispatch from the Office of the President revealed
yesterday.

The release reads:
His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia, Sheikh Professor
Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh is pleased to present to the gallant women of The
Gambia a special present, on the occasion of his 46th Birthday. His
Excellency the President has directed that the tractors presented to the
Governors for use in their various regions should be handed over to the
women groups in their respective regions.

These tractors should from henceforth be owned and managed by the women
groups in conformity with The Gambia Women’s Federation structures at the
District and Regional levels. This gesture of the President is in
recognition of the significant role the women of The Gambia play in the
socio-economic development of this country, especially in the area of food
and agriculture. The Regional Governors should effect these transfers
immediately.
