An interesting story of an African moslem slave in Christian America. He
maintained his moslem faith yet was deep in the nitty-gritty of American
society of the time.
He owned property and had invested variedly.  With thrift, hardwork, dignity
he attained his freedom. Versed in Arabic, even though he came to America at
age 14 and died an old African-American man.  Spoke English and used poetic
language. Yarrow Mamout''s (The Guinean) dignity and culturedness fascinated
many thus his portrait was painted by one of the most prominent artist of
the day for posterity.

YJ, perhaps next time you are in the East Coast, you might venture to
Yarrowsburg (Lol).  Good to know a town carries your name.  The full
