The Imam of Sukuta Central Mosque has expressed gratitude to the Gambian
leader for the generosity shown to the people of Sukuta during the just
concluded ‘Dialogue with the people’s tour’.
Alhaji Ismaila Baye, who has been an Imam for the past 38 years said His
Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh has a personal
relationship with him and the entire people of Sukuta dating back to when he
first assumed leadership of the country.
Speaking to the Daily Observer Wednesday,Imam Baye described the president
as a leader who cares about the wellbeing of Gambians particularly the
people of Sukuta, recalling that the town was the first place the Gambian
leader held a public meeting after the 1994 takeover.
“President Jammeh is a leader with a difference who cherishes the welfare of
the people. This is the type of leader Gambians want and we the religious
leaders in particular want too,” Imam Baye said.
The Sukuta Imam stated further that his relationship with President Jammeh
is moving from strength to strength. He assured the Gambian leader of their
continued prayers for him and his family and the entire people of The Gambia
for peace and stability to continue reigning in the country.
“We will continue to stand by him in whatever endeavour he is doing to move
The Gambia forward, Insallah,” he added. Imam Baye finally urged every
Gambian to remain united and to rally behind President Jammeh for the
interest all.
