Nord-Mali: Accrochage entre l’Armée et les bandits armés 

 
Au moment où nous mettions sous presse, nous avons appris de sources dignes de foi que des éléments de l’armée malienne, dirigés par le Colonel Ould Meydou (un arabe bon teint), faisant partie de l’opération "Djiguitugu " (combler l’espoir) ont fait un accrochage avec les bandits armés de Kidal, dans la zone de Tin - Essako.


 
At the time of going to press, we learned from reliable sources that elements of the Malian army, led by Colonel Ould Meydou conducted Operation "Djiguitugu" (Restore Safety) and engaged some armed bandits of Kidal in the Tin Essako Zone. (This is where Bahanga was from).
 
C’était dans l’après d’hier du lundi 12 janvier, aux environs de 15 heures. Bilan : huit morts, des blessés, une voiture brûlée, une autre saisie et dix prisonniers dans les rangs des bandits armés. Parmi lesquels, Ahmed Anakib, qui passe pour être le bras droit du criminel, Ibrahim Ag Bahanga.
 
It was monday Afternoon around 3PM: 8 Dead, some injuries, one vehicle destroyed, one other vehicle recovered, and 10 armed-pirate prisoners captured. The captured include Ahmed Anakib, the right-hand man of Ag Bahanga.
 
Il est également premier vice-président du Conseil de cercle de Tin-Essako. Il fait partie de ceux qui ont lancé le raid meurtrier sur Nampala, le 20 décembre dernier.
Du côté de l’armée, un mort et deux blessés légers ont été enregistrés. Parmi les blessés se trouve le Sous-lieutenant Ahmed Ag Cheik, le bras droit et cousin germain du Colonel El Hadj Gamou. C’est bien lui, qui a dirigé cette embuscade sous le contrôle du Colonel Ould Meydou.
 
He is also the first vice president of the Council of Tin-Essako county and was part of the gang who attacked Nampala camp on dec. 20th, 2008. (That was my friggin birthday. The gall.) The national army sustained one dead and two slightly injured one of the injured being Sub-Lieutenant Ahmed Ag Cheik, the right-hand man and first cousin of Colonel El Hadj Gamou. Ag Cheik led this operation under the control of Col. Ould Meydou.
 
Cet accrochage intervient trois semaines après le carnage perpétré par l’assassin, Ibrahim Ag Bahanga, à Nampala. Depuis, ATT s’est mis dans une colère vive qu’on ne lui connaissait pas, en déclarant : "trop, c’est trop..".
Depuis, l’armée est aux trousses des bandits armés. Le peuple malien, dans son ensemble, est d’accord avec le président de la République pour dire que les bandits armés ont franchi la ligne rouge. Et nombreux sont nos compatriotes internautes qui privilégient l’option de la force.
 
This comes 3 weeks after the carnage perpetrated by the assassin Bahanga in Nampala. Since then the army was on the trail of the armed-pirates. The people of Mali, in their entirety, are behind the President ATT in his resolve to nip this gratuitous banditry in the bud. And a good number of our e-opinion favors the use of force to extricate these undesirables from our midst.
 
Nous-mêmes, à L’Indépendant, nous avons plaidé, à maintes reprises, pour une solution militaire car nous n’avons jamais cessé de le dire : les bandits armés de Kidal ne comprennent qu’un seul langage, celui de la force.
Tant que le gouvernement est dans cette logique, seule capable de ramener Bahanga et consorts à la raison (la négociation interviendra après) il aura le soutien de son opinion publique, exacerbée par les multiples attaques soldées par des morts et des enlèvements commis sur de paisibles citoyens.
 
We at the Independent have pleaded for a military response because these pirates only understand the language of force.
As long as the government is in this mode, the only means capable of bringing Bahanga and his gang to their senses, it will have the backing of public opinion, amplified by the numerous attacks, deaths, armed robberies, committed against the peace-loving citizens.
 
Sous aucun prétexte, ATT ne devrait desserrer l’étau qui est en train de se resserrer autour du grand criminel malien de la décennie, Ibrahim Ag Bahanga. Les Maliens souhaitent le voir mort ou prisonnier.
Il faut noter que le gouvernement joue sur deux registres : celui de Bahanga et celui de l’Alliance du 23 mai qui fait de la surenchère pour son cantonnement avorté le 5 janvier dernier.
Pour qui connaît cette partie du pays, notamment la situation précaire du terrain, la mentalité des uns et des autres et la grande complicité entre eux, la tâche du gouvernement est loin d’être facile. Cependant, il doit rester ferme et résolument engagé à défendre la sécurité des population et l’intégrité territoriale du pays.
 
Under no circumstances should ATT relax the noose that is tightening around the malian idiot of the decade, Bahanga. Malians wish to see him dead or imprisoned. (Dead or Alive, Like we say here in Texarcana, Texas). It is worth noting that the government proceeds on two tracks; The Bahanga Tract, and that of the May 23rd. Alliance which 
For those who are familiar with this area of the country, especially the precarious nature of the terrain, the mentality, and complicitous arrangements, the task of the government forces cannot be over-estimated. They must stand firm and resolutely engaged to defend the security of the people and the territorial integrity of Mali.
