The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh
has bagged another prestigious international award in recognition of his
pragmatic stance in ensuring good governance, management as well as peace
and stability that continues to prevail in the country.

The latest award conferred upon the president by the Management School
London and BEEC International, global leaders and pacesetters in human
resources development and learning, is among series of international
accolades the Gambian leader won over the years, in recognition of his
outstanding stand in ensuring good governance as well as peace not only in
The Gambia but Africa in particular and the world at large. The move,
according to officials, was also in recognition of his relentless effort to
develop The Gambia .

The vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy
received the award on behalf of the Gambian leader yesterday, at the ongoing
international Public Relation Congress jointly organised by the Management
School London, the International Public Relation Association BEEC
International and the Public Relation Association of The Gambia (PRAG) at
the Sheraton Hotel & Spa in Brufut. The event which runs from 4th -7th July
2011, will also saw the 4th International Relations Congress, the 5th
International Human Resources Management Congress as well as the Management
Congress running parallel and attracted directors, chief executives officers
and managers from both the private and public sector. The congress is
designed to enhance the strategic thinking and good corporate governance of
directors and top management.

In her keynote address, Dr Njie-Saidy on behalf of President Jammeh
expressed honor and humility in welcoming the delegates to the Smiling Coast
of Africa. She thanked the organisers for choosing The Gambia for the
congresses stating that the government and people of The Gambia are
extremely grateful to have them here. She added: “As such, the government of
The Gambia urges and encourages you all to develop the spirit of promoting
African tourism through the good work of all of your institutions gathered
here today. In 2009, I welcome you [APRA] to The Gambia on behalf of the
president. During our interaction, I urge you to maximize efforts through
PR in the promotion of African continental values for the development of
Africa,” she recalled.

Dr Njie-Saidy used the opportunity to emphasise the need for capacity
development at all levels of professionalism pointing out that as such the
training courses they hold globally is an asset for sustainable development.
She went on: “The government of The Gambia therefore salutes your efforts to
recognise that development of the top human resource skills especially among
the board of directors, directors and chief executive officers is critical,
if we have a skilled workforce to accelerate our economic development”.

She explained that in this age of the rapid development of information
technology coupled with the dynamic and ever changing information society,
the convergence of mediums for effective communication and projection of
institutional values that creates wealth and alleviate poverty becomes ever
more relevant. The vice president further acknowledged that their mutual
association in their collective drive to achieve continued professionalism
and excellence in the broad areas of competencies that their training will
offer over the next few days is a signal of good partnership and cooperation
that The Gambia will always encourage and support for the benefit of all
Gambians and non Gambians in The Gambia and abroad.

Dr Njie-Saidy then encouraged the delegates to support their staff at all
levels and to commit more time towards enhancing capacity through training
of professional practitioners in the areas of competencies such as
management, human resources, public relation and indeed governance at board
level. “You are all aware that the Africa continent is critically challenged
by human capacity issues. Experience in government and life generally has
demonstrated that training and by so doing, the bridging the skills gap is
the approach we should adapt to raise the level of our competencies
generally,” she told the delegates, while equally imploring on them to
explore avenues of affiliation with institutions in The Gambia so as to have
constructive positive inputs into their development process.

She then urged institutions in The Gambia to begin to review and refine
their approach to training with a view to complementing the efforts of
government in enhancing professional competence. In a globally competitive
and high challenge environment in which we all find ourselves these days,
she pointed out that success is attained through competitive advantages
which require people to position themselves in such a way that they have an
edge over their competitors.

Addressing the gathering earlier, Mike Okereke, the president of BEEC
International recalled that he met the Gambian leader in 2009 during the
launching of the Pan- Africa Public Relation Conference held in The Gambia
noting that he will be honored by the Management School London and BEEC
International for running a very peaceful and stable country and for good
governance and effective management of government business. “We thank Her
Excellency and all distinguished participants for being part of this
historic occasion. We are also very delighted to welcome the president of
the International Public Relations -Mr Richard Linning to The Gambia.

The International Public Relation Association is the professional body of
the Public Relation Practitioners worldwide with a membership drawn from
over 96 countries. IPRA mission is to provide intellectual leadership in the
practice of international Public Relation and also to help its members to
meet their professional responsibilities and succeed in their career,” he
added. The BEEC International president further revealed that the Management
School London and BEEC International who are also driving this programme are
happy to be in the Gambia positing that these congresses are rotated from
one African country to the other.

In 2009, he added, the programme was held in Kenya and 2010, Ghana hosted
the congresses while the venue is shifted to The Gambia in 2011. “We
congratulate all of you for being part of this history. The Management
School is a global leader and pacesetter in human resources development and
learning. The Management School works closely with BEEC International,
Africa’s leader in human resources development and learning. I have visited
most part of Africa. I can tell you that The Gambia is the most peaceful and
stable country in the Africa continent. Many countries worldwide are praying
daily for peace and stability which Gambia enjoys,” he emphasised.

Raymond AK Njai, the president of the Public Relation Association of The
Gambia recalled that in May 2009, PRAG hosted an annual conference of the
African Public Relation which was a huge success. “This is all possible
because of the conducive environment created by Your Excellency Sheik
Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh. I take this opportunity to thank Your
Excellency for continuing to bless the Public Relation Association of The
Gambia. The PR fraternity in The Gambia will not relent both locally and
internationally”.

He then called on the delegates to find time to experience the Smiling Coast
of Africa and encourage the peace and serenity that characterize The
Gambia.

Other speakers at the ceremony were David Taylor, senior consultant at the
Management School London, Richard Lining, the president of the International
Public Relations Association (IPRA).
