ll's newsagents where Mrs Saine worked, in St Enoch Square, Glasgow, on 1
June.

After the attack, Mr Saine turned the 8in knife on himself. When police were
called to the incident shortly before midday, they found him injured and his
wife dead.

Mr Saine was initially taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and then, after
appearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on 8 June, was remanded in custody.

He made no plea or declaration during his most recent court appearance.

It was alleged he had bitten and punched Mrs Saine and held his rucksack
over her face and mouth before stabbing her.

The court heard that Mr Saine, from Greenock, Inverclyde, was on bail from
Greenock Sheriff Court at the time of the incident. He was also charged with
breaching a bail condition not to approach his wife.

The Scottish Prison Service declined to comment.
