Via TPM Howard Fine is quoted : In discussing Barack Obama as a big winner in the lottery a few moments ago, Howard Fineman just said: "Obama took all his winnings and turned them over to Max Baucus."
That is what he did. Baucus and his gang of six took their sweet time and decimated progressive priorities along the way. Mr. Obama went along, occasionally giving tepid pronouncements to what progressive were yearning for : a public option in health care. Now that his party lose Ted Kennedy's senate seat in Massachusetts, one of the most liberal states in the union, his signature issue, health reform or the little of it he hasn't compromised to big pharma or the insurance lobby is at the verge of defeat. The man spent most of the year running from his base looking for a bipartisan utopia and appeasing the likes of Lieberman. I just hope this humiliating loss wakes Obama up. If you want people to fight for you, you must stand for something. Push issues that appeal to the people who help get you elected. It is sad but a lot of Obama supporters like yours truly are not very happy with his style of leadership to say the least. Massoud: I don't want to hear
it.
