Journalists detained in
             Gambia

The authorities in Gambia are reported to have detained
three journalists working for a new newspaper, the
             Independent.

A reporter on the paper N.B. Daffeh was arrested on
Friday and two senior editors Baba Galleh Jallow and
Yorro Jalleh were taken into custody on Sunday.

No reason has been given for their detention.

The Independent was launched a month ago, but was
forced to close down on the grounds that it had failed to
pay a business registration fee, an allegation which it
             denies.
