Suntou,
I'm glad you have reconsidered and that you will join the countervailing
opinion for the commission to close its offices in Gambia. We are not saying
the commission is circumspect in all her demarche. We are simply saying
that in the face of direct threats by Yahya, the commission will be delinquent
in the safety of her staff should they choose to interpret Yahya's
cluelessnesses. This bears more on international labour laws.
Consider this:
What if the commission closes her offices in Gambia and relocates
elsewhere. Then the commission employees and staff be merged under the ECOWAS or AU
bureau in Gambia to afford them sanctuary from the uncouth. That will
enable the commission to remain and continue her work in Gambia. It is the
honour of having the commission headquartered in Gambia that we are really
addressing by suggesting they close shop. You asserted that the commission
continued to remain in Gambia in the face of earlier completion of threats by
Yahya. Would you not therefore applaud them for remaining and fighting during
those times??? And if they relocate the headquarters elsewhere, they will
still remain in some capacity to fight for human rights in Gambia. The
relocation will represent an escalation of their fight in view of Yahya's
escalated posture. NOT RUNNING AWAY as you'd like to think. You're just worried
about the farthings of the cleaner and courier. WHy don't you ask the
cleaner and courier for their opinion instead of putting words in their mouths?
