BAKAU'S 'RAMBO' DEFECTS TO APRC

In what could be described as the first and biggest political defection in
Gambian politics in 2011, Ousman Rambo Jatta, a senior and strong member of
the opposition UDP yesterday switched allegiance to the ruling Alliance for
Patriotic Re-Orientation and Construction (APRC).

Jatta, who is the councilor of Old Bakau Ward in the Kanifing Municipal
Council (KMC) announced his defection to the APRC last night during the
celebration of the 4th Anniversary of the presidential medical Breakthrough
which took place at the July 22nd Square in Banjul. He was introduced to the
podium during the ceremony by the APRC National mobiliser and mayor of KMC,
Yankuba Colley.

Jatta made his pronouncement before the president of the Republic, His
Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, First Lady Aja Zineb
Yahya Jammeh, the vice president, Cabinet ministers and top government
officials saying that it is not time to talk and quickly added: "If you
cannot beat the system, then join the system to do your contribution."
