This Kumba or Samba Yalla whatever the hell his name is quite
delusional, and the Gambia Government needs to send him an unequivocal
message that the sovereignty of the Gambia shall never be threatened.
There are procedures to follow through diplomacy to resolve such
unfounded allegations, otherwise this Yalla is displaying plain
megalomaniac paranoia. Displacing internal insecurity within his
government through belligerence will never bring him peace.
Bissau has greater issues to deal with rather than exporting empty
threats. This hungry neighborhood can barely feed itself more-or-less
wage an offensive military campaign. Neither country, Senegal nor
Bissau will never be able to carry out a sustained military offense
whilst the Gambia maintains a sufficient defensive armed forces. It is
absolutely foolish for leaders in the sub-region to even think about
invading a neighbor.
Both Senegal and Bissau are far better off mantaining a cordial
relationship with The Gambia. Both countries have too much to
loose...especially Senegal, the heartland of the separatist
resistance. I would advice President Jammeh to expand his defensive
weapon system acquisition, especially low range anti-aircraft weapons
to defray any threats from the rudimendary Senegalese airforce. FYI, I
recently attended a seminar in DC where the Senegalese Ambassador to
the US Gen. Mansur Seck has been making a purile systematic lobbying to
acquire weapons from the US. Installing a weak puppet regime in the
Gambia has been a perennial dream of the Senegalese governments since
Senghor in the sixties. The Senegalese strategy has ever been very
simple: There is no way their government can control the Casamance
region without the good faith and support of a Gambian Government- this
has been a thorn in the flesh. Now the Senegalese government, under
the disguise of some token internatinal peace keeping missions, have
managed to somehow convince the West that they mean well whilst
harboring hegemonic ambitions to further their strategic interests in
the sub-region.
I would also advice President Jammeh to further strengthen his
diplomatic peace iniatives with the MFDC to thwart the current scheme
of the Senegalese government's attempt to alienate the MFDC as
a "terrorist organisation" thus rallying international moral claims to
support its hegemonic ambitions.
