Bailo, I do not believe this License fee has anything to do with public safety, but to tax Gambians to be in turn, squandered. By now we know that this government will use all sorts of pretext to tax the people to death. Can anyone of us state for a fact that they have ever been stopped for a bike License in their entire existence in the Gambia? The few that ride their bikes in the dark have a bell and headlight/reflectors. I had a bike in the seventies and eighties and have never been bothered nor do I know of any of the countless students who got bikes for being good students. This is all about raising cash that none of us here know whose pocket it will land. We are giving support to this scheme in the name of public safety, but this has nothing to do with public safety.Joe

Thanks, Tejan. I myself used to own a Swan pedal bicycle during the late 80's which I exclusively rode within the Kombos. My bike was entirely in road-worthy condition which could probably explain why licence was never an issue for me.

however I think inspection of the road worthiness of pedal bicycles is essential for enhancing public safety in traffic.

Cheers

Just another money-making scheme for the APRC regime.

This press release from the Gambian police makes me laugh so much. I guess there are more pedal bicycles in the Gambia than are motor vehicles.
