Yes indeed, Yaya must go and NOW. We must all demand that and continue to demand that. Gambians are tired of dealing with opposition squabbles but the partisans are still stuck like a broken record. Folks stopped paying them any mind. Let them do as they wish. The people are going to seek the change they demand. The criminal must go and we are not begging him. Some of his former handlers/patrons have been sent packing, on their way to be shuttled, or at best caged. It is not going to be any different for Yaya. We, the people must stop depending on others and take matters in our own hands.

Fankung,

Opposition or no opposition, win or lose, this is a time and an opportunity for your dear leader and all those who pretend to love him, to really take heed of history and correct course.

It is a time for your leader to be on the right side of history by learning about what has been going on around the world and his own corridors and accept that he can no longer operate in isolation and can no longer hold the Gambian people hostage under the pretext of "love for country and patriotism" We all love our country and he has not sacrificed any more than other Gambians.

If you guys are smart you will learn from all the problems from the Iran weapons, to ECOWAS issues to Gaddaffi and particularly Senegal and take heed that time has come for him to change course.

If he and you all fail to learn then, you should be rest assured that the end days of your professor will go down in history as the ugliest. He has isolated enough people and the international community that he should learn from others.

This path we are on in so called development is not going to work for you guys so history and common sense dictates that you understand the evolving world and evolve as well...

Just an unsolicited advice if you may......

Demba

The time has come for the opposition to unite and stop the daily blames on Professor Jammeh. We have 8 months to get something running. I call on Ansu, Suntu, Wandifa, Demba, Joe, Dave, Yerro, Yus, George Sarr, Kejaw, Malik, Paco, Sainey, Karim, Oceanic, Ousman G, and other opposition supporters to call on their leaders to get their house in order. Just like OJ said, Jammeh will sweep the polls hands down if the opposition remains divided.

Please, now the focus should be on the opposition. Let us give Professor Jammeh a break.

Presidential election is Nov. 24th IEC declares
Africa » Gambia

Thursday, March 31, 2011
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) the body responsible for elections in The Gambia Wednesday announced the dates for the forthcoming presidential, National Assembly and Local Government Elections.

According to the IEC, upon completion of the voter registration exercise, the presidential elections will be held on the 24th November 2011 to be followed by the National Assembly Election in the first quarter of 2012. The Local Government election will come up in a year later, in the first quarter of 2013. Mustapha L Carayol, the chairman of the IEC disclosed the dates at a press conference held at the IEC head office along the Bertil Harding highway.

He further disclosed that it is also part of the mission of the Commission to embark on a massive voter education campaign prior to the elections, and that each political party will be authorised by the IEC to invite at least one
agent to accompany each registration team throughout the period of the registration. According to him, a voter education guideline has already been developed by the Commission to help foster better collaboration in harnessing the efforts and objectives of the different role players. He also solicited the support and cooperation of all would-be registered voters, local authorities, development partners and the public at large for the conduct of a very successful voter registration and free and fair elections.

Wuli East by-election
Chairman Carayol used the opportunity to announce that the Commission has also set Thursday, 28th April 2011 as the date for the election to the position of the National Assembly Member for Wuli East Constituency. He said that nomination will be on the 18th April 2011, while the campaign will start from 20th of April 2011 and end on the 26th of April 2011. He added that the
Commission has already published in the National Gazette the date for the said election since Friday, 18th of March 2011.

The IEC chairman warned people to desist from attesting for underage persons and aliens, as this is a crime in the laws of The Gambia. “The Gambian voter ID is exclusively for eligible Gambians,” he stressed. He explained that the 2011 general registration of voters will be conducted over a period of 42 days which will last from 2nd of May 2011 to 12th of June 2011, all Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays inclusive. “All the voter cards issued during the general registration of voters in 2001 and the subsequent supplementary registration of voters of 2004 and 2006 will be invalid by 1st of May 2011. Therefore, 200 teams will be deployed across the country for the registration of the voters’ card,” he added.

For his part, Sambujang Njie, the director of Operations at the IEC revealed that between 900,
000-1.2 million people are targeted for registration in this year’s election. He said the voters’ card will expire after ten years without changing another. While assuring that this year’s election will be successful, as everything will be computerized, Njie called on Gambians to come out in their large numbers to register during the registration period.

Robert Anthony Secka, the chief electoral officer at IEC said there is no plan at the moment to register Gambians outside the country as the government has spent a lot of money in the registration process. He stressed that it is the collective responsibility of every Gambian to participate in ensuring peace during the campaign and the elections processes.

The conference ended with a questions and answer session.
