APRC DISCUSSES J22 MOVEMENT AND IEC DEMARCATION PROPOSALS

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) recently released a draft demarcation report where several constituencies were created/proposed in the various administrative areas of the country like in Basse, Janjangbureh, Mansakonko, Brikama, Kanifing and Banjul. This has been received throughout the country with mixed feelings and Gambians have been making their comments and suggestions on the proposal.

The APRC party task force on the dissolved July 22 movement has been holding enlightenment campaigns to explain to their militants why the president banned the movement as well as discuss with them on the proposed demarcation.

The task force member and director of press relations at the State House, Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay alongside the SoS for Interior, Ousman Badjie last weekend in Brikama, told party supporters to be united and disclosed that the militants would be integrated into the new youth wings of the party and registered by November 8.

Mrs Jahumpa-Ceesay cautioned the people to be "mindful" of the draft demarcation report of the electoral commission as "it is not done in the interest of the people".

The Kombo Central chief, Bakary Santang Bojang, said that the IEC demarcation will not be accepted by the people. He said seyfolu and alkalolu will meet and discuss it, "because we were not consulted before any decision was taken."
