The president of the Republic and leader of the ruling Alliance for
Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) Monday donated 10 brand new
motorbikes with safety gadgets to the regional chairpersons of the party.

The motorbikes, which were handed over to the APRC national mobiliser by the
vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs, Her Excellency Aja Dr Isatou
Njie-Saidy came barely a few months after a similar donation was made by the
party leader to mobilisers across the length and breadth of the country.

Speaking in a brief presentation ceremony, VP Njie-Saidy thanked President
Jammeh for all the assistance he has been providing to the party.

She said: “During the tour we heard most of our members have been lamenting
about logistics support, particularly transportation because that is
critical. Without transportation a party cannot do much, but again the
president has already done that in previous years. The president has
provided vehicles before, but now a lot of those are broken down and this
time around he provided a lot of motorbikes.”

The vice president appealed to the beneficiaries to ensure that the
motorbikes are put into good use, while stressing the need to develop the
culture of preventive maintenance so as ensure durability. She also enjoined
the would-be users of the motorbikes to adhere to safety precautions, urging
them to always put on safety gadgets, especially the helmets.

The Attorney General and minister of Justice Edward Gomez, who said the
gesture was not a surprise, observed that it has become characteristic of
the benevolence of the head of state that whenever the citizens expressed
desire for anything he acts timely to provide it, while commending him for
the move.

The APRC national mobiliser and mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council
(KMC) Yankuba Colley joined the previous speakers in commending the Gambian
leader for yet another donation of motorbikes to the party militants to
bridge the mobility gaps.

The national mobiliser, who admitted that mobility was among their
constraints, expressed hope that it will be greatly addressed with the
provision of the motorbikes.
