Friends,
one of the problems is that Mr. Sharon is not a diplomat but a general. He
believes that he can handle the situation as was it a military action. And
another problem is that we all look to USA but with an american president
handling the situation in the world nearly the same way as Sharon, we can
not let USA step into the scene. The palestinians can not trust or see the
american president as neutral. If Sharon isolate Arafat and neglect him, he
himself will face a big problem because then he has no one to negotiate
with, IF he should get that idea. Arafat is the leader of the Palestinians.
In Denmark we have for nearly two years told Israel that they must stop the
intimidation, the torture, the settlements, the intifada. We had a small
diplomatic crisis with Israel last year, because we asked Israel to behave
and don´t send the former head of the national intelligent service to serve
as ambassador here in Denmark. There is a rising opinion in Denmark in
support of the palestinians clame of a state. I pray that there will be a
way out of the problems. The Arab states are ready to recognise the state of
Israel. From outside we must ask our governments to put pressure on Israel
to accept the UN resolutions, withdraw from the occupied territories. But
even if it´s possible to establish some sort of peace, I think it will take
many generations for the two parts (peoples) to come to an understanding.
The hatred is too much.
