S/he is usually voted in by majority of those who choose to vote. Not all
the eligible voting citizens!
S/he is a citizen like anyone of that nation. He's human with feelings -
likes/dislikes. S/he probably has a political ideology and as well likely
belongs to a political party. S/he also comes from parents,
village/town/city/district/region, tribe/ethnic. All of these shows that
the person is unique in many ways from many in that same nation.
Yet as president s/he is expected to serve the whole nation the same.
This is not easy - closed to impossibility. Hard to find a human with such
exemplary characteristics.
Goodness we don't have to - a nation has laws and guides that s/he conduct
his/her official functions. The added problem here is to make sure of
conformity. Again the solutions to that are
functioning democratic institutions and consequences for failings.
As we discussed yesterday such same ethical conduct of professionalism
whether you're a President, Journalist, Financial Analyst, Lawyer, MD, etc.
are expected whether it is in writing or not.
Do you expect Yahya to treat all the people in The Gambia in accordance
with the laws of the lands? Do you expect those of his party or voted for
him be given favorable treatment in his capacity as president? How did you
conduct yourself in your official capacity in The Gambia with those
standards? Have you ever favored a friend, relations or someone from your
village or same tribe?
Don't give us the answer to the last questions but use it as assessment and
compare with your criticism of others. We're all in it in some ways.
