Jaiteh,
Made my POINT Dr. I guess if the seller chooses to take refuge with them, he is theirs' for pay back. The democratic forces taking charge on the continent would NOT concede to any and all unscrupulous deals entered into by these self proclaimed messiahs. In that; I believe we have the development partners as Partners. If the UN Corruption body can't see these as Classic cases, let them reconsider the mandate of this particular body. Unfortunate we cannot rely on the AU- pitiful.

Farang.

                  Sanyang,
My concerns is that the Gambia being one of the most densely populated countries in Africa, unable to feed herself, could afford to lease out 30000 ha to Bangladesh for 99 yrs. Put in perspective 30000 ha is 1/3 of all swamp land (not including mangrove) in the Gambia (salt or freshwater), equals the size of Kantora or Kombo South District. How many Gambian's would need to be displaced to find 300 sq km? Ecologically, can the river support irrigating another 300 sq km? We know the amount of water coming downstream through Senegal have decreased over the years as a result of dam construction and droughts. Should this trend continue over the next 99 years to point where water would need to be rationed, who will be given priority, our wealthy tenants or the helpless members of the family?

What makes these buyers believe that these shady deals sanctioned by dictators and autocrats would be honored when changes come?
          Those days are gone.
