Breaking News: Gambia: ''Do Not Accommodate The Opposition In Fonis ''-Says
Governor Lamin Sanneh

*''Do Not Accommodate The Opposition In Fonis ''-Says Governor Lamin Sanneh
**
*By Staff Reporter Ebrima Jarju, Banjul

The Governor of the Western Coast Region of the Gambia Alhagie Lamin
Sanneh, has urged the people of Foni not to accommodate any Opposition
party in the area ahead of the November Pools, the Freedom Newspaper has
gathered. Governor Sanneh, who was speaking in respective meetings held in
the Fonis, recently told the people of his birth place not to allow any
Opposition to hold a political rally or accommodate them when the
Presidential Campaign Kicks Off in the Gambia, sources said.

According to sources, the Governor has been touring the Fonis in a bid to
incite the local inhabitants to rebel against the opposition in the event
they showed up in their respective localities.

''Governor Sanneh has indeed tasked the village heads and local Chiefs in
Foni not to allow the Opposition to hold any Political rally in their
villages and Districts,'' said a source who witnessed the Mr. Sanneh’s
meetings in the area.
During the meeting, the chiefs and village heads (Alkalos) assured the
Governor that Foni will be a “no go area” for the opposition. They said they
will not allow the opposition to convene meetings in the area.

The UDP West Coast Region Coordinator when contacted said if the words
attributed to Mr. Sanneh emanate from him, he should think twice about the
implications of his actions. Mr. Gassama noted that the Gambia cannot
accommodate such an indecent political life noting that the Government is
expected to remain impartial as a Public Servant. He said Mr. Sanneh should
not engage in active politics, and any action that will instigate violence
should be discouraged by all and sundry. He challenges the Governor to
withdraw his statements if indeed he made such pronouncements.
