Who Is Behind The Mass Demolition Opposite Yarambamba Estate?

By Bakary Y. Jammeh

The victims of the demolition exercise that took place opposite Yarambamba Estate have informed this reporter that they got their plots from AMRC, and now the Army is claiming part of the same area and many of their fences are demolished they would want the AMRC to intervene to protect their interest.

Speaking to Foroyaa newspaper at his office the assistant director at physical planning Mr. Ismaila Kah confirmed that they did write to people who unlawfully bought lands at this particular place to vacate from there. Regarding the demolition, he said they haven’t done any demolition at the said place.

According to Mr. Kah, the planning authority orders the removal or demolition of the building/ structure/ fences before Thursday 25 February 2010. Mr. Kah added that before this date they heard that there was a massive demolition at the said area and according to him they do not actually know who is behind it.

This reporter made effort to visit the office of the AMRC in order to know their views concerning the demolition, Mr. Abdoulie Dibba who spoke on behalf of the AMRC said they cannot speak on the issue as at now since the victims who said they got the said plots from AMRC are not showing any evidence that they got the land from AMRC.

Editor’s Note
The Victims should now go to AMRC to lodge their Complaint. They have a right to compensation if their buildings or structures are brought down illegally.
